Painting, especially En Plein Air, has become a very spiritual experience for me. I often think when I'm out there...."There is nothing else I'd rather be doing". If I can find a shady spot next to a stream and the bugs aren't biting, it can be a wonderful experience no matter how successful (or unsuccessful) the piece is.

When I paint I try to convey the emotions I feel about a particular subject. To do this I use strong value and colors. I also strive to use soft and hard edges and limit the amount of detail. I want the painting to show signs of paint and brush strokes rather than being photo realistic.

I enjoy painting in my home studio as well as en Plein Air. I've  participated in numerous paint outs including San Luis Obispo Ca., Port Angeles Wa., Fairplay Colorado and Idaho plus local events.

Growing up in the Black Hills of SD connected me to the landscape at an early age. As a child I spent time roaming the hills and taking in my surroundings. I've lived in Co., ND,and NE. and have always appreciated the diversity of each area. Trips to the South West and earlier trips overseas contributed to my love of nature and lifestyles. Although I frequently paint landscapes I occasionally paint still lives and people caught in the moment.
